Good News on Tiger Numbers

WWF has reported that the Indian Government released new tiger population numbers for the first time since 2007 and the figures indicate an increase in tigers.

The government estimated the number of tigers in India to be 1,706, up from 1,411 during the last count in 2007. The figure of 1,706 includes an additional reserve, the Sundarbansn, which contained 70 tigers, therefore, when comparing the previous survey with the current one, the official estimate stands at 1,636, an increase of 225 (15.9%).
