Action Alert: Housing Against Nightingales – No Way!

The opening paragraph in the Ecologist’s article:

A 5,000-house development has just won planning permission on a SSSI nature area in Kent which is home to over 1% of the UK’s nightingales. It violates government planning policies, and ministers have the power to stop it. But will they? Yes they will, writes Martin Harper – provided enough people show they care!

Please show your support for the nightingales and the Site of Scientific Interest (SSSI) by asking Eric Pickles to call in the decision.  If you live in the constituency of Rochester and Strood, please also contact Mark Reckless, MP and ask him to help persuade Eric Pickles to call in the decision.  Thank you.

  1. We had heard the bad news, but being as it happened during the Green Party conference, hadn’t had a chance to respond as yet and wasn’t aware of this campaign, so this blog is very helpful. Thank you very much.

  2. Reblogged this on Medway Green Party's Blog and commented:
As an update on the Lodge Hill campaign, Medway Council agreed planning permission for the Lodge Hill Development, completing ignoring the wishes of local people and the evidence based advice of RSPB. So much for consultation! Please respond as advised in this blog. Thank you.

  3. PS That should be “completely ignoring the wishes of local people” a typo. It was also only intended for our local blog – I don’t know how this blogging system works. Appealing to “the Greenest government ever” doesn’t fill me with confidence, We have to find a way to stop this!
